Privacy policy

What the Slateway platform records, why it records it, who else ever sees it, and how to have it removed.

Last updated 8 September 2026

Contents

This policy covers the whole platform, which is three things that share one database: the operator console used by dispatch and finance staff, the API behind it, and the Slateway Driver app used in the cab.

Who we are#

Slateway is provided by MIRIDE TECHNOLOGY (PRIVATE) LIMITED, registered in Zimbabwe. In this policy "we" and "us" mean that company.

The two roles we play, which decide who you should ask#

This decides who is answerable for your information, so it is worth two paragraphs.

For drivers, dispatchers and finance staff, we act on behalf of your employer. A haulage operator subscribes to Slateway and creates accounts for its own people. That operator decides what is collected, why, and how long it is kept. We process it on their instructions and for no purpose of our own. If you are a driver asking why your position is recorded, your employer is the right first contact, and we will help them answer you.

For visitors to this website and people who contact us, we decide ourselves. Enquiries and any future signup information are ours to look after, and this policy governs them directly.

What the platform records#

Grouped by who the information is about, because that is what most people are actually asking.

About the people who use it

Information recorded about platform users
Recorded Why
Name, email address and, where given, phone number To sign you in and to identify you to your colleagues.
Your role and what you are permitted to do Set by your employer. It decides which screens and figures you can reach, so finance information is not shown to an operations user and the reverse.
A driver profile, including licence details Held where your employer records it for compliance with their transport obligations.
Sign in sessions and password reset requests To keep you signed in and to let you recover access. Sessions expire and can be revoked.
Registered devices and their notification identifiers To send notifications about work assigned to you. The identifier names an installation, not a person.
An audit record of significant actions Who changed an order, approved a checklist or issued an invoice. Haulage records are commercial evidence, and an unattributable change to one is worth little.

About drivers specifically

In addition to the above, the driver app records your position while a trip is running, the checklists you submit, the proof of delivery you capture, and the parts you draw against a vehicle. Location is covered in its own section below because it deserves one.

About an operator's customers

Operators record their customers in the platform: company names, contact people, phone numbers, email addresses and delivery addresses, along with the contracts, rates and invoices attached to them. That information belongs to the operator. We hold it for them, we do not use it for anything else, and we never combine one operator's customer list with another's.

Location, in plain terms#

The driver app records your position while a trip is running, including when the app is not open. That is the point of it: a load without a position is a phone call to a driver who is driving.

Collection stops when the trip does. Your position goes to the dispatch team of the company you work for and to nobody else. It is never shown to other drivers, never sold, never given to advertisers, and never visible to another haulage operator on the platform.

The app asks permission before it begins and explains why. If you decline background location you can still complete a trip; your employer simply will not see your position between updates.

Photographs and documents#

Proof of delivery files are stored in our own object storage alongside the database, not on a public link. The app does not open the camera or read your photo library: it receives a file you choose in your device's own file picker, and nothing else.

How operators are kept apart from each other#

Operators on this platform compete with one another, so isolation is the platform's defining constraint rather than a feature of it. Every record carries the operator it belongs to, and the database itself refuses a read that is not scoped to one operator. It is enforced beneath the application, so a fault in a screen cannot expose another company's freight, rates or customers.

Who else handles this information#

A small number of providers process information on our instructions and may not use it for their own purposes. This is the complete list.

Service providers and what each receives
Provider What it receives
Google Firebase Device notification identifiers, to deliver notifications.
Google Maps Positions and addresses, to draw maps and calculate routes.
Google Gemini Counts and totals only, for the written summary on the dashboard. See the note below.
Sentry Crash and error reports. Configured not to attach user identity.
Cloudflare Serves this website and stores our encrypted database backups.

On the dashboard summary, because "we send your data to an AI" is the reasonable thing to assume and it is not what happens here.

The console can write a short summary of the day. What is sent to Google Gemini to produce it is a set of aggregate figures and nothing else: how many orders today, how many trips are running, how many checklists are waiting, revenue and outstanding totals for the month. No customer name, no driver name, no address, no order number and no document ever forms part of it. The figures are also filtered by the role of the person asking, so a summary written for an operations user contains no revenue at all.

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. There is no advertising in the app and no advertising identifier is collected.

Where it is held#

The database and the document storage run on servers we control. Encrypted backups are taken daily and held with Cloudflare for a year, so a failure does not cost an operator their delivery records. Because our providers operate internationally, information may be processed outside the country you are in.

Our access to an operator's data#

Our staff reach an operator's records only where it is needed to provide support or to investigate a fault, and never out of curiosity. The platform records significant changes against the person who made them.

How long it is kept#

Operational records, meaning orders, trips, checklists, proof of delivery and invoices, belong to the haulage operator and are kept while that operator requires them, which is usually governed by their own tax, insurance and transport obligations. Your account details are kept while your account is active. Crash reports and backups age out on the periods described above.

Deleting your information#

You can delete your account from inside the Slateway Driver app, or ask us by email. What can and cannot be removed, and how long it takes, is set out in full on Deleting your data.

Your rights#

You may ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Where we act for your employer we will pass the request to them and help them answer it, because they decide what happens to their operational records.

Security#

Everything the app and the console send travels over an encrypted connection. Your sign in credential is held in the secure storage the device provides, backed by its hardware keystore, rather than in ordinary application storage. Screens showing customer names and commercial terms are marked so they do not appear in the phone's app switcher preview or in a screenshot, because a driver's phone is often shared between shifts. Passwords are stored only as a one way hash and cannot be read back by anyone, ourselves included.

Children#

Slateway is a commercial tool for employed drivers and office staff. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy#

If we change it we will update the date at the top. Where a change materially affects how information is used, we will tell the affected operators directly rather than relying on you to re read this page.
